Fort Worden/Fort Flagler

Great adventures with the grand-kids, creating memories to last their lifetime.
This weekend I took my two 11 year old grandsons and explored the bunkers of Forts Worden and Flagler near Port Townsend. This was an all day event. We packed sandwiches and snacks. Make sure you take some good flashlights. Some of the bunkers take a little hiking to find, so wear good shoes and heavy socks. It can be cool and damp in some of the bunkers, so a sweatshirt or jacket is advised. Didn't seem to be bothered too much by bugs, but saw lots of wildlife along the trails, mostly deer and birds. Do your research in advance so you know where to find the bunkers... I think we saw them all at Ft. Worden. By the time we got to Ft. Flagler it was getting late, so didn't get to explore the whole park. We left Tacoma at 11am and started our exploring about 1pm, an earlier start is advised if you plan to hit both parks in the same day. From Tacoma I put a little over 200 miles on my car for this trip. The boys both thanked me and said this was the best adventure I have taken them on so far, and we have done fishing trips, mountain hikes, ghost towns, and coal mining camps. We topped the day off with a stop on the way home for Ice Cream.
